Place your Tali and power it on
The screen belongs outside the cellar or humidor, where you read it. Plug in the USB-C cable and it wakes on its own.
Stand your Tali where you will actually look at it — on the counter beside the cellar, on the shelf above the humidor, on the desk in the study. It is the part of the system you read, so it does not belong inside the space it is watching. The Puk sensors go inside; the screen stays out.
Plug in the USB-C cable and give it a moment. The e-paper display wakes on its own and shows its first frame without any setup — that first frame is how you know the unit is alive before the app is anywhere in the picture.
About the screen
E-paper holds its image using no power at all, and only draws current when it changes. That is why the display looks static: it is not refreshing sixty times a second like a phone, it is redrawing when there is something new to say. A screen that has not changed in a while is normal. A screen that has not changed in hours, with a stale timestamp, is worth a look.
Keep the cable in. Tali is a mains-powered instrument, not a battery one — the battery inside covers moves and brief unplugging, not permanent cordless use.
