Put Tali on your Wi-Fi
The app finds the Tali over Bluetooth and hands it your network. It has to be a 2.4 GHz network — Tali cannot see 5 GHz.
With the app open and your phone next to the Tali, follow the network step. Your phone reaches the Tali over Bluetooth, you choose your network and type its password, and the phone passes both to the device. From then on the Tali talks to your Wi-Fi directly and no longer needs your phone nearby.
What the Wi-Fi is actually for
Not for measuring. The sensors, the screen and the local alerts all work on their own, with or without a network. Wi-Fi is what carries readings to the cloud so you can see them from anywhere, and what brings firmware updates down to the device.
If the connection drops, Tali keeps measuring and displaying locally and syncs the whole gap when the network returns. You do not lose history to an outage.
It has to be 2.4 GHz
Tali only supports 2.4 GHz networks — it cannot see a 5 GHz one at all. Most routers publish both, and there is nothing to do. If yours publishes 5 GHz only, turn the 2.4 GHz network on in its settings before you start; nearly every router allows it. There is more on this in I can’t connect my Tali to Wi-Fi.
One other network to avoid: a guest network that opens a browser page asking you to accept terms cannot be joined by a device with no browser.
